The devices described in "Advanced MOS-Gated Thyristor Concepts" are utilized in microelectronics production equipment, in power transmission equipment, and for very high power motor control in electric trains, steel-mills, etc. Advanced concepts that enable improving the performance of power thyristors are discussed here, along with devices with blocking voltage capabilities of 5,000-V, 10,000-V and 15,000-V. Throughout the book, analytical models are generated to allow a simple analysis of the structures and to obtain insight into the underlying physics. The results of two-dimensional simulations are provided to corroborate the analytical models and give greater insight into the device operation.
High Voltage Engineering has been written for the undergraduate students in Electrical Engineering of Indian and foreign universities as well as the practising engineers. It deals in mechanism of breakdown of insulating materials, generation and measurement of high A.C., D.C., impulse voltages and currents. High voltage testing of some of the electrical equipments e.g. insulators, cables, transformers as per standard specifications has been explained. Various methods of non destructive testing which yield information regarding life expectancy and the long term stability or otherwise of the insulating materials have been discussed. The book takes a view of various types of transients in power system and suggests classical and more modern statistical methods of co-ordinating the insulation requirements of the system.
This authoritative new book focuses on recent developments in the instrumentation for sending voltages and currents. It covers new trends and challenges in the field, such as measurements of biocurrents, the increased speed of the components for data taking, testing of computers and integrated circuits where the measurement of rapid voltage and current variations on a very small geometrical scale is necessary. The first chapter concentrates on recent methods to sense voltages and currents, while the rest of the book investigates the applied side, covering for instance electrical power and energy measurements. The main purpose of this volume is to illustrate commonly employed techniques rather than track the scientific evolution and merits and therefore mainly covers patent literature aimed at industrial applications. It is an exciting addition, justifying the series’ claim to cover state-of-the-art developments in both the applied and theoretical fields of sensors and actuators. The measurement of voltages and currents is a common task in the field of electricity and electronics. From a technical point of view it is useful to identify schematically different steps of such a measurement. In a first step a voltage or a current is sensed, intermediate steps such as amplification, transmission and further treatment may follow to yield the result in the final step. Today in most cases microprocessors perform the final steps of such measurements. Analog-to digital converters digitise a voltage that is proportional to the value to be measured and a processor performs further computations and handles the storage and the display of the results. The prerequisite for such measurements are sensors or transducers that respond in a known way to the voltage or current to be measured. The emphasis of this book is put on recent developments of the instrumentation for sensing voltages and currents. Aside from the general trend towards smaller, cheaper and more reliable instrumentation, new demands have arisen. New applications, like measurements of biocurrents, ask for higher sensitivities. Computers and integrated circuits pose new challenges. To exploit the increased speed of the components for data taking, suitable sensors are required. The accuracy that can be achieved depends more than ever on the first step, the acquisition of the raw data. The influence of the measurement process on the results becomes more crucial. Testing of integrated circuits themselves is a completely new application. For such tests one has to measure rapid voltage and current variations on very small geometrical scales. Here, as well as in the traditional high voltage applications, contactless measurements play an important role. The organisation of this book is as follows: In the first chapter different methods to sense voltages and currents are described. For the sake of completeness most commonly used methods are mentioned, we concentrate, however, on those developed recentl

Maybe living under or near high power lines cause cancer at high voltage?
I was looking for a new home found a large much except for the fact that right behind the patio is a power plant and power lines If I move hostel and stay for a period time is possible for me or my family could end up with cancer?
This is very controversial. One study found an association very low, but could have confounding in this study because those who live near power lines may be less socioeconomic staus and we know that low socioeconomic status is associated with poorer health. Basically I think the evidence is inconclusive. But personally and intuitively, that living near high power lines, especially if children are present.

Low-dispersion and small-angle systems for tailoring and diagnosing laser pulses under extreme conditions as well as VUV-capable microoptics can be realized. Continuous-relief microstructures of refractive, reflective and hybrid characteristics are obtained by vapor deposition technologies with shadow masks in rotating systems. The book gives a comprehensive overview on fundamental laws of microoptics, types of thin-film microoptical components, methods and constraints of their design, fabrication and characterization, structure transfer into substrates, optical functions and applications. Recent theoretical and experimental results of basic and applied research are addressed. Particular emphasis will be laid on the generation of localized, nondiffracting few-cycle wavepackets of extended depth of focus and high tolerance against distortions. It is shown that the spectral interference of ultrabroadband conical beams results in spatio-temporal structures of characteristic X-shape, so-called X-waves, which are interesting for robust optical communication. New prospects are opened by exploiting small conical angles from nanolayer microoptics and self-apodized truncation of Bessel beams leading to the formation of single-maximum nondiffracting beams or “needle beams”. Thin-film microoptical beam shapers have an enormous potential for future applications like the two-dimensional ultrafast optical processing, multichannel laser-matter interaction, nonlinear spectroscopy or advanced measuring techniques. – Introduces a new and promising branch of microoptics – Gives a compact overview on the types, properties and applications of the most important microoptical components containing valuable data and facts – Helps to understand the basic optical laws – Reports on the historical development line of thin-film microoptics – Provides brand new results of research and development in the field of ultrashort-pulse laser beam shaping and diagnostics – Discusses the future trends and first approaches of next generation microoptics – Contains a carefully assorted glossary of the most important technical terms
Stress is a very important parameter which determines the reliability and lifetime of thin film. Over 60 rejection of the electronic devices is due to stress failure. Stress can play an important role in the electrodeposited film as recrystallization can occur over times from several minutes to several years after electrodeposition. A critical analysis on the theoretical formulations and models of internal stress are reviewed in this book. A details literature of internal stress and its corelation with deposition parameters are included in this book. The work was mainly focused on the real time stress change of the electrodeposited Cu film during deposition and room temperature aging. In this book, different setup for the measurement of insitu and real time stress of electrodeposited films are discussed. Among the many atomic/molecular assembling techniques used to develop artificial materials, molecular layer deposition (MLD) continues to receive special attention as the next-generation growth technique for organic thin-film materials used in photonics and electronics. Thin-Film Organic Photonics: Molecular Layer Deposition and Applications describes how photonic/electronic properties of thin films can be improved through MLD, which enables precise control of atomic and molecular arrangements to construct a wire network that achieves "three-dimensional growth". MLD facilitates dot-by-dot–or molecule-by-molecule–growth of polymer and molecular wires, and that enhanced level of control creates numerous application possibilities. Explores the wide range of MLD applications in solar energy and optics, as well as proposed uses in biomedical photonics This book addresses the prospects for artificial materials with atomic/molecular-level tailored structures, especially those featuring MLD and conjugated polymers with multiple quantum dots (MQDs), or polymer MQDs.In particular, the author focuses on the application of artificial organic thin films to: Photonics/electronics, particularly in optical interconnects used in computers Optical switching and solar energy conversion systems Bio/ medical photonics, such as photodynamic therapy Organic photonic materials, devices, and integration processes With its clear and concise presentation, this book demonstrates exactly how MLD enables electron wavefunction control, thereby improving material performance and generating new photonic/electronic phenomena.
